First on the Moon (2005) the debut feature of director Aleksei Fedorchenko. This film could be called a historical drama or a documentary fantasy. The story makes a very convincing documentary (mockumentary) vehicle. With archived footage that gives Guy Maddin a run for his money. First on the Moon largely draws attention to the necessity that states propogandizes themselves. Largely drawing attention to the vast amount of untold soviet cosmonauts that perished in space or upon reentering the stratosphere, before Yuri Gargarin made it back to earth alive. In a world of Fake News what is Truth.
